Freight transportation of equipment and its parts, oversized and heavy components

The term "equipment" encompasses a wide range of various products and complexes of products intended primarily for business operations. This can include industrial, office, or commercial equipment, equipment for radio and television broadcasting, communication point equipment, or, for example, gym equipment. Business is constantly growing, transforming, changing its profile, and expanding. Transportation of various equipment is constantly required, and the volume of orders for such transportation is increasing.

Features of delivering equipment as cargo

Equipment can be very diverse. Often, a set of equipment consists of several separate products connected by communication lines, pipelines, brackets, belts, and other means. To transport such sets, they need to be disassembled and dismantled.

Often, equipment or its part has such mass-dimensional indicators that it is impossible or impractical to transport it as a whole. In this case, the equipment or its part should be disassembled into components that can be transported.

Sometimes disassembling the equipment or its parts, despite exceeding the allowed mass-dimensional indicators for transportation, is impractical or impossible to disassemble. In this case, it is necessary to organize the transportation of oversized cargo, which requires additional technical and organizational work. A permit for oversized transportation must be obtained, which takes additional time.

Rules for transporting equipment

The transportation of equipment is carried out according to the following rules:

  • All equipment must be dismantled, and if necessary, disassembled into components.
  • All equipment and its components must be packaged in such a way that the products are not damaged in transit and do not damage the transporting vehicle.
  • If necessary, a permit for oversized transportation must be obtained for the transportation of equipment.
  • If the equipment elements contain hazardous components, such as sources of radioactivity or compressed gas cylinders, these elements must be transported according to ADR regulations.
  • Equipment and its parts must be secured in the vehicle to prevent cargo shifting during transit, as well as damage to the equipment from contact, during bumps in transit, between individual cargo elements and with the vehicle's structural elements. If necessary, soft pads made of various materials, foam, polystyrene, and other soft materials should be used.

Freight transportation of equipment and its parts by various modes of transport

Equipment can be transported by air, sea and river vessels, and rail rolling stock, that is, by all modern types of freight transport.

When transporting equipment and its parts by road, the following can be used: car platforms, trailers with ramps, flatbed trucks, trailers, and semi-trailers; covered (tarpaulin and all-metal) vans, trailers, and semi-trailers. The final choice of a specific type of transport depends on the type of equipment and whether it needs protection from precipitation and sunlight during transit. Car platforms can also transport equipment packed in containers.

When transporting equipment by rail, covered wagons and platforms are most often used. Sometimes, open-top wagons may be used. In addition to open transportation of equipment on a rail platform, the same type of rolling stock is used to transport equipment in containers.

By water transport, equipment can be moved by barges, bulk carriers, and container ships. Cargo aviation is capable of transporting equipment according to its specifications. The largest cargo capacity in the world belongs to the aircraft An-225, which can lift 250 tons of cargo into the sky.
