What transport is provided for the turnover of cargo from Montenegro. International freight transport to Montenegro

Montenegro is one of the republics of the former Yugoslavia. The disintegration of the Yugoslav federation was accompanied by numerous wars, in which Montenegro sided with Serbia. This led to the fact that the country's economy suffered not only from the wars themselves but also from international sanctions. In fact, the main sector of the country's economy is servicing foreign tourists.

Transport system of Montenegro

Despite the relative economic backwardness of the country, Montenegro is a modern European state and all modern types of transport: rail, road, water, and air are present in it.

Montenegro shares land borders with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, and Albania. The country has access to the Adriatic Sea, and accordingly has a maritime route to the Mediterranean region and further around the world. Water transport is the cheapest way to transport goods, and having access to the sea is always a big plus for the country's economy. In particular, the presence of maritime transport allows the country to utilize its transit capabilities for delivering goods from ports to states that do not have ports.

Roads for road transport

The length of the roads in Montenegro is 7762 km, with the exception of about five hundred kilometers, all roads are paved. There are no toll highways in the country, and there are no highways at all. There is one paid tunnel in the mountains, but it does not allow vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons, and trucks making freight transport in Montenegro have to travel along mountain serpentine roads.

Montenegro is generally a hilly and mountainous country, with plenty of serpentine roads, long ascents, and descents. The condition of the road surface often raises complaints. In the global ranking of roads, Montenegro ranks 88th, just behind the African Mali, and ahead of the African Algeria. However, the largest republics of the former USSR: Russia and Ukraine are much lower in this ranking, and Belarus did not make it into the ranking at all.

  1. Berane.
  2. Žabljak.
  3. Podgorica.
  4. Tivat.
  5. Herceg Novi.
