What types of transport are used for shipping cargo from Kyrgyzstan. Shipping opportunities for goods from Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan is one of the poorest countries in the CIS. The collapse of the USSR led to a decline in the country's economy by more than ten times during the 1990s. In fact, the country underwent deindustrialization. Only the extractive industry, energy sector, and light and food industries remain. About 30% of the country's GDP comes from money transfers from Kyrgyz citizens working abroad to their families. The main foreign investments come to Kyrgyzstan from Kazakhstan, with Turkey in second place.
Types of transport in Kyrgyzstan
Slowly and laboriously, Kyrgyzstan is developing; moreover, the transport infrastructure has largely been preserved since Soviet times. It is believed that all types of modern transport are represented in Kyrgyzstan. However, in a country lacking access to the sea and significant rivers, water transport is only carried out on Lake Issyk-Kul, and its volume is insignificant. Other types of transport: road, rail, and air, do indeed exist in the republic.
Kyrgyzstan shares borders with Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Kazakhstan and Tajikistan also border China, and Kyrgyzstan's transit opportunities are limited.
Road network and its condition
The length of Kyrgyz roads is about 40,000 km. Less than half of them have a solid surface. Nevertheless, it is road transport that carries 98% of the cargo in the country. The condition of the roads is terrible. In the international ranking of roads, Kyrgyzstan ranked 122nd. A new North-South road is currently under construction, which is supposed to connect Issyk-Kul with Jalal-Abad. It is said that it will pass through a tunnel in the rock and will have the quality of a highway. One hopes that it will be just that.
Air transport
Kyrgyzstan has 18 airports. Only two of them are international. These airports are located in the cities:
- Bishkek.
- Osh.
Thus, the delivery of goods to Kyrgyzstan by modern air transport is possible.
Railways
The total length of Kyrgyz railways in 2006 was 470 km, in 2012 it was 424 km, and it continues to decrease. There is no talk of a railway network in Kyrgyzstan; these are fragmented and dead-end branches in terrible technical condition.
What Kyrgyzstan exports
Kyrgyzstan extracts: gold, mercury, and tin-tungsten ore. In fact, apart from these minerals and a working population, Kyrgyzstan has little else to export.
