Search for vehicles for transporting cargo from the Czech Republic Opportunities for cargo transportation to the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is one of the most developed former socialist countries. After the dissolution of the unified state of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the main economic potential of the common country remained in the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic has rapidly developed due to foreign investments. The standard of living has been rising rapidly, particularly due to the favorable exchange rate of the Czech koruna. However, in recent years, the growth of the Czech economy has slowed down, and currently, Slovakia is a more developed state than the Czech Republic.

General characteristics of the country's transportation capabilities

The Czech Republic has no access to the sea. The country's closest neighbors are Germany, Poland, Austria, and Slovakia. The Czech territory is used for the transit of goods between these countries. In addition, the Czech Republic requires infrastructure for exporting its own goods abroad and importing raw materials and products of foreign origin. Therefore, the Czech Republic has all four main components of modern cargo transportation: water, air, road, and rail.

Cargo transportation in the Czech Republic by road

Reviews of the condition of Czech roads are varied. The country has many highways, the quality of which is very high. These roads are often compared to autobahns and do not raise complaints. However, in addition to highways, there are also secondary and local roads. It creates the impression that they have been neglected. The surface of secondary roads can be damaged. It is considered that Czech roads are the worst in Europe. This fact is reflected in the global ranking of road conditions. The country ranked 72nd out of 137. It is worth adding that Tajikistan occupies the 70th position in this ranking.

The length of roads available for cargo transportation in the Czech Republic is 130,671 km. There are no unpaved roads in the country; all roads, at least officially, have a solid surface. The length of Czech highways is 1,250 km. There is a toll for using the highways. The cost does not depend on the distance traveled on the highway but on the type of vehicle and the time of road usage.

Czech infrastructure for cargo transportation by air

The Czech Republic has 128 airports, which is quite decent for a small country. However, paved runways are only available at 41 airports. Nevertheless, the possibility of importing and exporting by air transport is ensured. The main airports in the Czech Republic are located in the cities of:

  • Brno.
  • Zábřeh.
  • Zlín.
  • Karlovy Vary.
  • Marienbad.
  • Olomouc.
  • Ostrava.
  • Pardubice.
  • Prague.
  • Přerov.
  • Uherské Hradiště.

Cargo transportation by water transport

In the absence of the sea, Czech water transport carries goods along rivers and canals. The total length of waterways accessible to vessels with a deadweight of over 500 tons in the Czech Republic is 664 km. The main rivers of the country are the Elbe (as the Czechs call it), Vltava, and Odra (as the Germans call it). The main ports of the country are Prague, Ústí nad Labem, and Děčín.

Czech railway infrastructure

The length of the Czech railway tracks is 9,622 km, of which 2,405 km are electrified. Cargo transportation to most European countries by rail is done without transshipment along the way, as the track gauge in the Czech Republic corresponds to the European standard of 1,435 mm. In the CIS countries, the standard track gauge is 1,520 mm. This fact should be taken into account when planning railway transportation to and from the Czech Republic. In such transportation, the cargo will have to be transshipped along the way.

Structure of Czech exports

If we judge by export revenue, the main goods sold by the Czech Republic abroad are: cars and spare parts for them, computer equipment, equipment for radio and television broadcasting, and office machinery.
