Freight Delivery - Directions Poland.
Poland is the only country from the former Soviet bloc that has reached the level of a developed country according to the ratings agency FTSE Russell. All other former socialist countries are considered developing. To better understand the level of Poland's economic achievements, it should be noted that there are only 25 developed countries in the world, while the UN has 193 member states. This means that Poland has an economy of the same type as the USA, the UK, Germany, and other highly developed countries on the planet. New enterprises are constantly being opened in Poland, and the standard of living is rising. Positive changes have also affected the freight transport sector in Poland.
Polish Infrastructure for Freight Transport
Partly with its own funds and partly with EU funds, Poland is modernizing its infrastructure for freight transport. Like other economically developed countries, Poland has all modern types of transport for freight transport within its territory and transit to other countries. The country uses road, air, water, and rail freight transport.
Overland, Poland shares borders with Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the Kaliningrad region of Russia. Poland's access to the Baltic Sea ensures connections with countries in the region and global connections with all continents through maritime freight transport. Poland's geographical location has made its territory a major transit corridor between Western European countries and the republics formed after the collapse of the USSR.
Road Infrastructure in Poland and Its Condition
When transitioning to a market economy, Poland inherited a not very rich legacy, and the condition of its roads was not the best. The roads were in disrepair. A rapid restoration of roads began in the 21st century. As early as 2005, only 8% of Polish roads met EU requirements. Currently, the situation has improved significantly. Major roads are in excellent condition and are even compared to German autobahns.
The total length of roads in Poland is 424,000 km, with 292,000 km of Polish roads having a solid surface, and 1,566 km are highways. There is a toll for using some Polish roads. Upon entering the highway, the driver receives a special ticket, which must be kept until the end of the trip. The toll cost depends on the distance traveled on the highway; upon exiting, the ticket is surrendered, and the calculation is made. If the ticket is lost, the maximum possible amount is charged.
Poland's Capabilities for Receiving and Sending Cargo by Air Transport
Poland has 126 airfields, 87 of which have a runway with a solid surface, and 70 of them have a runway length that allows for the reception of the latest aircraft of various types. If necessary, organizing air freight transport to or from Poland is not a problem. International Polish airports are located in the following cities:
- Bydgoszcz.
- Warsaw. The capital has 2 international airports.
- Wrocław.
- Gdańsk.
- Gdynia.
- Rzeszów.
- Zielona Góra.

Water Transport in Poland
The main internal waterways in Poland run along the Oder, Vistula, and their tributaries. The total length of river routes that can accommodate vessels with a deadweight of 500 tons is nearly 4,000 km.

- Gdańsk.
- Gdynia.
- Swinoujście.
The Polish Railway Network
The length of Polish railways is nearly 20,000 km. Most of them have a standard European gauge of 1,435 mm. However, there are 395 km of railway with a gauge of 1,524 mm. This gauge was used in the Russian Empire and the USSR until the 1980s. Railway rolling stock from CIS countries can operate on these sections. Since the 1990s, the gauge in these countries has been 1,520 mm.
