What is the complexity of cargo transportation in Denmark. Cargo transportation and infrastructure for it in Denmark

Denmark is a country in Northern Europe, belonging to highly developed countries. The basis of the country's exports is the provision of services. With an average income level for Western European countries, Danes have to spend significantly more. The cost of living in this country is about 40% higher than in other Western European countries. Denmark does not have large reserves of natural resources, and its economy heavily depends on raw material supplies and foreign trade in general. The foreign trade turnover per capita in this country is the highest in the world. Denmark is a member of the EU, while its autonomous units Greenland and the Faroe Islands are not part of this organization.

State of Denmark's transport system

Denmark, like other developed countries, has a high-quality infrastructure for the delivery of cargo by all types of modern transport. The country has developed networks of roads and railways, as well as water transport and infrastructure for receiving the latest model aircraft.

Denmark has a land border only with Germany, and the land transit of cargo mainly passes through German territory. Cargo transportation to these regions and global transportation between all continents of the planet can be carried out via the North and Baltic Seas. In addition, cargo transportation by road and rail to and from Sweden is possible via the Øresund Bridge.

Road transport network

All roads in Denmark are in excellent condition. The total length of the road network is 74,500 km. There are no unpaved roads in Denmark. The entire road transport network has a solid surface.

There is no charge for traveling on Danish roads. However, there is a toll for crossing two road bridges:

  • The Great Belt Bridge. This bridge is a suspension bridge connecting the major Danish islands of Zealand and Funen. The toll depends on the type of vehicle and ranges from 18 to 85 euros.
  • The Øresund Bridge. This bridge, across the strait of the same name, allows for the delivery of cargo by road between the Danish capital Copenhagen and the Swedish city of Malmö. The toll ranges from 29 to 106 euros. The dimensions of vehicles allowed to cross the bridge are limited to a length of 6 m.

Aviation component of Denmark's transport infrastructure

Denmark has 16 airports. 4 of them have international status, these are the airports of the cities: Copenhagen, Aalborg, Aarhus, and Billund. The largest of them is Copenhagen Airport, which is the biggest in all of Scandinavia.

Water transport in Denmark

Denmark consists of many islands, communication between which is provided by ferries. Often, the ferry is the only means to reach the island you need. Sometimes ferry transportation turns out to be cheaper than using the toll bridge, due to the toll itself and expensive gasoline.

The sea ports of Denmark provide its logistical connection with the whole world. Denmark has 4 major commercial ports. They are located in the cities:

  • Copenhagen.
  • Korsør.
  • Frederikshavn.
  • Rønne.

Interestingly, all major commercial ports in Denmark also serve as bases for the Danish Navy and are often visited by military ships from NATO countries.

Railway network

The length of Danish railways is 2,600 km. Only a small part of them is electrified. Danish railways mainly transport passengers. However, large cargo transportation occurs between Sweden and Germany. The Øresund Bridge allows not only road transport but also trains to move.

Denmark's export goods

On the international market, Denmark sells: oil, gas, machinery and metalworking products, electrical and radio-electronic equipment, chemical, pulp and paper, and textile products.
