How to transport truck tires. Order transport for tire shipping

The number of vehicles in the world is constantly increasing, and it requires more and more spare parts and consumables. Freight transportation of products for vehicles constitutes a significant part of transport flows. Truck and trailer tires, bus and minibus tires, wheels (rubber) for passenger cars are an important element of vehicle construction that requires regular replacement.

Well-known tire manufacturers are located in the USA, Europe, and Japan. In recent years, global giants of the tire industry have built many of their factories in Southeast Asian countries. There are also tire factories in the CIS countries and China. Often, a country is both an exporter and an importer of tires. In less wealthy countries, used tires from developed countries are in demand. Tire transportation occurs all over the world. Tires, as cargo, can be transported by all types of transport: road, rail, water, and air.

Features of truck tires as cargo

A modern tire consists of rubber, fabric, and metal. There are tube and tubeless tires. A tube tire consists of two elements: the tire and the tube. A tubeless tire has only the tire, and the retention of air when mounted on a wheel rim is ensured by the tight fit of the tire to the rim.

Truck tires are characterized by the following features:

  • High weight of a single tire. When loading tires weighing over 30 kg in one item, the use of forklifts is required.
  • Low specific weight of tires. The tire contains significant cavities filled with air, resulting in the weight of a large volume of tires being relatively low, which allows for the use of transport with relatively low carrying capacity for their transportation.
  • Tires can be damaged in transit. Tires are not afraid of rain and snow, but they are afraid of the combination of heat, light, and oxygen. Therefore, when transporting tires over long distances, covered transport should be used. Tires are designed to work in a vertical position. In this position, they have maximum strength. The side surfaces of tires are less protected and can be damaged during transportation. Additionally, rubber is sensitive to oils, solvents, and various acids and alkalis.

Rules for transporting tires

When transporting tires, the following rules should be observed:

  • Tires should not be transported together with oils, alkalis, acids, and solvents. Any contact with these substances on the road must be excluded. Additionally, tires should not come into contact with protruding parts of the vehicle during transit, otherwise, they may be damaged.
  • Transportation of tube tires can be done in two ways. If the tube is inserted into the tire, the inner side of the tire should be treated with talc or special lubricant. If the tubes are transported separately from the tires, they can be stacked one on top of the other, but they should not be rolled. Care should be taken to ensure that the valves of the tubes do not damage the rubber of other tubes.
  • If tires are in transit for more than 5 days, they must be transported in covered transport. If the transport is open, it must be equipped with at least a tarpaulin, or the tires themselves can be covered. Expensive tires are often packaged in plastic or paper.
  • It is recommended to transport tires in a vertical position. In this arrangement, they can move in the cargo compartment during braking and acceleration of the transport, so they need to be secured.
  • When transporting tires in a horizontal position, one on top of the other, special spacers should be inserted inside the tires to prevent deformation of the side surfaces of the tires. The height of the stack of tires should be such that the weight of the upper tires does not deform the lower ones. The most incorrect method of stacking tires is the so-called "Christmas tree" method. This method is used to maximize the useful volume of the cargo compartment. The side surfaces of the tires are often damaged in this arrangement.

Transportation of tires by different types of transport

Truck tires can be transported by all modern types of transport.

When transporting by road, covered cargo vans, trailers, and semi-trailers are used. The body of the vehicle for transporting truck tires can be tarped or all-metal. Technically, tires can be transported in isothermal vans and reefers. If the transportation takes no more than 5 days, tires can be transported in open transport. Large heavy tires for special equipment, such as quarry dump trucks, are often transported on car platforms. In multimodal transport, ISO containers and container trucks are used.

When transporting truck tires by rail, covered wagons and flatcars with tarps are used; it is possible to transport tires in stacks on platforms over short distances or with their covering. In any case, the tires must be securely fastened on the platform. Naturally, tires are also transported by rail in ISO containers.

When transporting tires by water, ISO containers are most often used. Theoretically, they can also be transported without a container on a bulk carrier, but this method is very rarely used.

Due to its high cost, truck tires are practically not transported by air. However, they can be transported by cargo aviation in ISO containers or without them.

You can find a carrier for your batch of tires and learn about the delivery cost in the "Add Cargo" section.
